Many of the photos held by institutions and museums around the North Country were taken by photographer Henry M. Beach – he was a prolific artist and traveled all over the region capturing scenes of life and business.

This collection of his photos (many of them “Real Photo Postcards” which were sold in general stores as souvenirs and mementos) offer a glimpse into Beach’s style and preferred subject matter, which Robert Bogdan (author of a book on Henry M. Beach called Adirondack Vernacular) has described as “he was from the people and he took pictures of the people and for the people of that region.

Most of these photos were taken from 1907-1917, Beach’s most prolific era.
