Laying brick pavement on State Street in Carthage

Early fire reports in the village mention equipment becoming mired down in the mud especially on the heavily traveled lower State Street.  In some photos, there are wooden crosswalks in evidence; there may be one at the corner of State and Mechanic streets in the center of this picture, as well as the one in front of the Levis House.  In the background (right) are the Windsor and the Irvington Hotels. Circa 1912-1920. Carthage, NY. Town of Wilna archives.
